German Cross in Gold By Zimmermann
 
This is a combat worn cross, the story that goes with it is free!  It did come from a very dependable friend so there is a good chance the story is true but it does not affect the price.  It was supposed to have been taken from a soldier who was in a burning tank.  It would make sense because there are some dings tot he high points of the cross.  The enamel is really nice which is always something we like to see.  In fact, I don't buy them if the enamel is dinged up.  The pin is stamped "20" which represents Zimmermann, overall a nice cross

EK II WWI GROUP WITH AWARD DOCUMENT FATHER & SON
 
This is a neat group form a local coin shop. All the items came intogether and I feel that this is a nice family group for WWI service and his sons HY membership. This group is to Musketier Otto Kricks, and his son Guenter. The group consists of a WWI EK second class with the Preliminary Owner Certificate to Musketier Otto Kricks of the 4th Co Infantry Regiment A from Boyen 5 East Prussia received on 7/31/17. Awarded medal in the field 8/2/17. The EKII has a LW stamped in the ribbon ring, no ribbon came with it. The second document is for the WWI comerative medal with swords for front line troops from Hindenburg to Postal Employee Otto Kricks. The medal is marked KM&F on the reverse. With the group there was also a NSDAP faithful service medal in excellent condition. There is no document for this medal but also included is a button hole miniature ribbon bar with the ribbons for all three medals under a miniature of the service cross. I have to assume that Her Kricks was also awarded this medal.  The second part of the group is to Gunter Kricks  a Payroll Tax form for 1942 listing Gunter as an apprentice. There is another document to Gunter Kricks that is for union dues and lists his birth date as 2/28/25 and this would make him 17 when this was issued in 1942. There also are two Hitler Youth shooting awards in enamel a Good Shot and a Marksmanship with silver wreath, along with a what I would call a silver sports badge that came with the group.  A neat family group wonder what happened to both of them. Condition very good++

This Spange retains almost 98% of the gilt finish and looks great. I can not tell if there is a maker mark as the Spange is attached to a section of WWI IC ribbon and I can not see under it. The four flat attachment tabs are present and I would believe a collector attached the Spange to the ribbon. Sharpe looking Spange with the highlighted edges. Condition Very good +

A friend of mine was lucky enough to buy from a veteran a group of KVKs and Black Wound Badges in the original packets.  Most if not all of these are also marked on the suspension ring.  Most are early war quality.  Pictured are some of the different bags and rings, I do not want to unwrap a cross from the tissue paper if has not been disturbed over the decades.  You can request a particular cross or bag but mainly "first come first served".

I have had many German crosses over the years, this is the first 134 so I imagine they are pretty rare.  This one is in wonderful condition, the obverse has a large amount of gilding on the wreath and the white background is very nice.  The starburst colors are also wonderful as is the silvered back side.  It will be very hard to upgrade this cross!  The case shows age and wear but still very functional and displays well.

These are very difficult to find and are extremely beautiful!  The silver frosted wreath really sets it apart from its gold counterpart.  This is an exceptional example that will be very difficult to upgrade.  There are minor signs of age and wear but still retain phenomenal finish compared to most badges.  The reverse side is naturally marked "20" for Zimmermann and "textbook".

Knights Cross Of The War Merrit Cross
 
Here we have an extremely rare example of the RK KVK, this one has both die flaws as we expect to see also.  I learned recently that the die flaw on these is different in nature then the die flaw on the RKs by S+L.  The S+L RKs have the die flaw because the molds were extensively used and over time wore, broke and were repaired.  In the case of the RK KVK the flaws developed because the mold was not cleaned well and debris caused the flaws.  For that reason they can vary a bit from cross to cross.  Anyway, this one has the flaw on the "3" in the date and the lower reverse arm.  The finish on this cross is wonderful and it is marked as we expect.  Great cross with a full length ribbon and case.

This was an exciting day for me, I have never owned a pair of oak leaves before.  I try to avoid items I do not understand, now I have had a great opportunity to study a war time produced Oak Leaf.  This one has a COA from Dietrich Maerz who has placed the time of production of this set to June of 1940 to October of 1941.  He has done so based on the time these were allowed to be produced and being compared to another one that was worn and documented.  This set is made by Juncker and extremely rare compared tot he Godet counterparts

In 45 plus years of collecting I have never seen a Unit badge with an award certificate. This 26th Panzer Unit Badges has the certificate and the two are professionally framed. The certificate is to Unteroffizier Hermann Baier 7th Panzer Grenadier Regt 9 of the 26 Panzer Division. The document is signed by the Hauptmann Und Btl Kdr. Deithelm Demming who was a Knights Cross holder. The photos are shot through the glass and the spots shown on the document are a reflection of a tree branch with leaves. A rather unusual black wound badge its a thin stamped version and the pin is really dainty. I checked the top hinge section and noted that nothing thicker would fit in the hinge so it must be right. The obverse is nicely finish with 90% paint the reverse has some glue on the pin and around the hinge where the vet had glued it to a display board. Condition good ++

This is something I had on the shelf for years under a helmet so now is a good time to let it go. This example was never applied to a uniform as far as I can tell but shows water damage to the cloth backing. The shield strike is nice and sharp and shows some ageing  to the bronze tone steel shield. The back paper is only covering the shield and some remains are on the cloth. The medal backer and four  straps are present. Not the best but a nice strike and real. Condition good +

I just bought this Observer badge which is my favorite Luft badge from a friend. This late war Observer badge is stamped on the reverse PM for     . Aside from the fact its my favorite badge its is also a real late one with the aluminum rivets all the way thru the wings and wreath. Just a really neat late war badge, the silver wash just shows on some of the recesses of the wreath and there is quite a bit on the reverse wreath. The swaz was filed off and it looks like the eagle is holding a rectangle in its claws. The over all detail is very good for a late war badge. I really like it. Condition good ++

Here is a pretty nice example of a super rare badge, this is the first one I have owned in 35 years.  I had to study these a bit and as usual the WAF was a major help.  110% original and nice condition!  The box has the typical two hinges and is in used but strong and sturdy condition.  This is a super rare badge!

This is an extremely cool medal that is greatly miss-understood by collectors.  It was awarded to people who did something significant for Germany, for example Reinhard Heydrick was one of the recipients.  God only knows what that truly evil man did to deserve such a medal! You can see it on his death pillow at his funeral.  This example is in fine condition and has no real apologies, great example!

A pretty solid badge which had a period repair.  It is awesome to study this under magnification, the ability they had to work in enamel was absolutely awesome!!!  It is slightly oxidized but overall pretty nice.  Best of all, we know who it belonged to and comes with a research file, I am sure you could do more!

RUSSIAN RED STAR GROUP
 
This is something a little different for us. I took this group in on trade for something that I desperately wanted to get rid of. Having said that I have no idea if this is a legit group, it is being sold (as is no return). It is either a great group or a put together group and I know enough if its real its worth a lot more than I am asking. The group is to Sergeant Mikhail P. Chigrin. The group has two red star medals, one for WWII the other probably for long service. The order of the patriotic war first class that was issued in the late 60's all three are serial numbered and listed in one of the order booklets. Medal for combat service, defense of Leningrad, Defense of Soviet Polar regions, plus all the other medals they gave out for being in WWII over the years. I do not know if the Defense of Leningrad or the Soviet Polar Regions are WWII or copies. There are award cards for all the later medals and two award booklets one after WWII with portions of the original WWII pages and a second for the 60's on. Condition good
